Wookey has given a number of presentations and written articles on areas of Aleph One
expertise over the last few years. Here we collect them for reference.
Talks
- Embedded Debian. An overview of
the Embedded Debian project and it's current work, concentrating on the
technical aspects of the implementation. This presentation was given to
Debian developers and users at the 6th Debian Conference, HUT, Helsinki on
11th July 2005.
- Presentation on Software Patents. An
updated, 30 minute, version of the shorter Cambridge
talk below, describing the problems with software patents and the current
state of EU legislation covering this issue. This presentation was given to Lancaster University Phd
Computere Science students, on the Isle of Man, on 2nd July 2004.
- Slides fom YAFFS - A NAND-flash filesystem. This
was presented at FOSDEM 2004 (February 23rd), as part of the Embedded Track,
and describes the YAFFS filesystem - it's origins, how it works, explains
the differences between NAND and NOR flash and thus why a
specialised NAND-flash filesystem is appropriate. It also covers
embedded-system use with Yaffs Direct, presents some
performance stats, and a comparison with JFFS2, and looks at supporting
next-generation NAND with YAFFS2.
- Slides from ARMLinux - from desktop to embedded talk
given at Linux User & Developer Expo, 16th July 2003. An overview of ARMLinux development
over the last 8 years or so.
- Presentation at Software Patent Discussion Meeting, Cambridge July 6th 2003 - Wookey
presented the case against software patents. Aleph One believes that
legislation making them legal in Europe will severely damage innovative
small software businesses, especially those using Free Software.
- Slides from ARM Open Hardware talk
given to a Linux User Group in Leeds, Feb 2003. Talking about Open hardware designs and particularly the LART and Balloon. Included one of the first Demos of a working Balloon board.
- Slides from Emdebsys - the easy way to make embedded systems talk
given at UKUUG, August 2002. Describes the emdebsys configuration tool - how it works, what it does and how to use it.
Articles
- ARM Booting - Discusses the detailed process of booting
ARMLinux and available bootloaders.
- The GNU Toolchain for ARM
Targets - Covers prebuilt toolchains and the process of building a
cross-compiler from source.
- Emdebsys - Explanation of the Embeded Debian Emdebsys
tool for creating small embedded system images (kernel and filesystem) (PDF
file).
