Aleph ARMLinux - Debian release

Debian supports ARM as one of its many architectures, and has done since release 2.2 was released in 2000. The current release is Debian 3.0 . Whilst it nominally has equal status with other architectures it is fair to say that there remain some bugs in the ARM release and it can be hard to install on some platforms. Nevertheless it is an extremely useful resource for the technically competent user, allowing you to run a modern Linux on your ARM device.

The Official release can be installed on a Netwinder, and instructions exist on line for installation on a number of other machines (RiscPC, Iyonix, LART, Riscstation etc). The debs can be used on any ARM device (Psion 5, LART, Assabet etc). We also do modified 'Unofficial' CDs aimed at particular devices. The first is for Acorn Risc PCs, and is strongly recommended if this is the machine you want to install on.

The Official release is split into binary (executables) and source code, and is available on DVD (1 binary, 1 source) or CD (6 binary, 7 source: 13 in total). The docs, installer and the most popular packages are on the first 2 CDs so you don't have to have them all. If you are not going to be doing development than you only need the binary CDs.

We strongly recommend our 'Guide to ARMLinux' for anyone installing on a Risc PC, and developers unfamiliar with Linux or ARM.

The content of the CDs is of course also available online, but unless you have a fast connection, it makes much more sense to just buy the CDs. We charge £5 per DVD/CD (plus a bit for admin) including VAT and delivery anywhere in the World.
