Security

To do a Credit Card transaction with you we must have your Credit Card details. We have been accepting Credit Cards in payment for twenty years, and we have a history of NOT having disputes with our customers. We value our reputation as a responsible company and we never make a charge for things we do not sell you.

If you are concerned about security in the transmission of your Credit Card number to us, there is a number of steps you can take to be more confident.

If you send one email in which you write the number as 1234 five six seven eight 9012 and so on you will avoid the characteristic string of 16 digits with three spaces in it.

If you divide the CC number into two parts, and send them in separate emails, neither email will contain the characteristic string.

You can fax us the CC details, to +44 (0)1 223 812 713, if you like.

Payment methods

Bank Transfer
Payment by Bank Transfer is preferred, made directly to HSBC Bank plc, City Office, PO Box 85, Cambridge. Please apply to us for details of our Bank Account. Please ensure that (our) receiving Bank Charges are paid by you, and advise Aleph One if you make a payment this way.
Credit Card
Payment by MasterCard or VISA is acceptable, but we add up to 3% to your invoice to contribute to the charge we pay the Bank. No charge is made until the tested product has been despatched. See 'Security', above, if you are concerned about sending your card number.
Purchase Orders
UK institutions can issue Purchase Orders, for payment 30 days from Invoice date.

EU customers who quote an EU Tax Number should ask for a precise Quotation specifying carriage by insured Post or Courier.

These goods are priced in GBP Sterling. As an approximate guide, One GBP is 1.6USD and 1.4 Euro, but these rates change daily.

Privacy.

We, like all British companies handling data on computers, are registered under the Data Protection Act, which requires us (amongst many other things) to describe what use we shall make of the data we keep, and have the authorities record and accept that use, and permits you access to the data about you (for a reasonable fee).

In practice when we write an Invoice we do it on a computer and we keep the invoice details for a few months (and our paper copy much longer).

We DO NOT EVER pass this information on, or sell it, to any other company. We never have done so and we expect never to do so in the future. Details of your transaction with us remain private to us and you can expect them to be seen only by our staff and possibly by our professional Auditors.

We suffer enough from junk mail and junk email to wish not to inflict any of it on anyone else!

We do not promise not to tell you if we have a new product we think you might be interested in. We very rarely do this, but as our product range develops and changes for the better we might at some future time want to tell you about what was both new and likely to be relevant to you.

If you tell us not to send you any mail about new developments then we will not do so.

We do also run Email lists for some types of product, but you only receive emails if you ask to do so. Where such a list exists you will find details on the page about that product.

Guarantee of goods

Our policy has always been to provide all the information a buyer needs to make an informed choice among our products. If you have questions to which you do not see answers we are happy to try to answer those specific questions, if you make clear to what product they relate.

For this reason our Guarantee is as follows:-

Our hardware products (except the LART group) and instruments are guaranteed against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of twelve months from date of purchase.

Our software products and LART Boards and related hardware are offered only on an "as is" basis without any warranty as to their suitability for any particular purpose. This may seem unfair, but it follows from the terms of the GNU Public Licence and the Licence for the hardware designs. In practice we stand behind our products, and exchange them if they prove faulty.

In all cases the company shall not be liable for any losses, damage, costs, expenses including (without limitation) any loss of profits, any loss or damage to property and any indirect or consequential loss howsoever caused including any liability to third parties.

This Guarantee does not alter your statutory rights, which are described in more detail, for private buyers (not businesses) within the EC, at http://www.dti.gov.uk/cacp/ca/policy/distanceselling/newregs.htm

Title to goods

Title to goods (that is, ownership) passes to the buyer only when we have received full payment for the goods.

VAT Number

We are registered for VAT with the number 213 2349 04.
