6 Using multiple Ethernet driver units

6.1 How to decide whether multiple driver units are required

Consult the lists below to determine whether the same frame types arerequired by both networking packages you wish to use. If so, go on tothe next section, otherwise you can simply set Network Links up in thenormal way and do not need to read this section any further.

TCP/IP frame type packets are used by:

  • Acorn AUN (Level 4)
  • Acorn Access (ShareFS)
  • Acorn NFS
  • DOS PC-NFS
  • Windows Internet software using WinSock
  • Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11configured for TCP/IP

  • Windows 95 configured for TCP/IP

ISO frame type packets are used by:

  • Acorn OmniClient® (LAN Manager or Windows NTservers)
  • Windows/Windows for Workgroups standard configurations (NetBEUI)
  • Windows 95 configured for NetBEUIprotocol
  • RM NetLM networks (NetBEUI)
  • Novell Netware 3.x, 4.x or Netware Lite configured for
    SPX/IPX

IPX frame type packets are used by:

  • Novell Netware 3.x, 4.x or Netware Lite configured for
    SPX/IPX

If you wish to run two networking systems with thesame frame type, you must set up a card with multipleunits. At the time of going to press (July 1996) only ANT/Atomwide and i-Cubed interfaces were capable of this.
