3.2 Windows for Workgroups

ARM-side:


Specify ISO packets in the !PC.!NetRun file, forexample:

  RMEnsure PCNE2 1.83  RMLoad <Obey$Dir>.PCNE2 -pISO 

PC-side:


Do the following:

  1. Start Windows.

  2. Run Windows Setup (usually in the Main programgroup).

  3. Choose Change Network Settings from the Optionsmenu to display the dialog which controls the network settings.

    You may already have some settings specified. The only settingdirectly relevant to Network Links is the Driver.

  4. Click Drivers, then Add Adapter,and select NE2000 Compatible from the list. This willneed to be loaded from your Windows installation disks and you will beprompted for the appropriate disc.

    When you have added the file click OK.

  5. You will be asked to specify the Interrupt number:

    This should usually be 5, unless you need to use a different one- see section A.1, Interruptnumber options, for the circumstances in which youmight need a different number.

    Click OK after choosing the number.

  6. You will be asked to specify Base I/O Port (0x0340):

  7. Leave Base memory Address set to (Automaticor Unused).

    The other typical settings (which may vary according to yourlocal network setup - these variations are beyond the scope of this UserGuide) are:

    • Protocol: Microsoft NetBEUI (specified in the Drivers dialog)

    • Networks: Microsoft Windows Network. (Click 'Networks', then checkthe 'Install Microsoft Network' option, and 'No other Network').

  8. Click on OK and close all the necessary windows,confirming your choices. When Windows is next restarted you should havea working network.

More complex setups with Windows using other Networks are possible. Seethe file NETWORKS.WRI in the Windows directory, and otherrelevant sections of this Manual for further configuration details.

After setup, the relevant part of the PROTOCOL.INI fileshould look like:

[MS$NE2CLONE]drivername=MS2000$INTERRUPT=5 IOBASE=0x340

Note that the NE2000.DOS protectedmode driver supplied with Windows 3.1 has a serious bug, and will notwork in some circumstances. If problems persist, then try theNE2000.DOS supplied with Windows 3.11, or Windows forWorkgroups v3.11.
